Health Sciences to Celebrate Summer Graduates

The Rangos School of Health Sciences will graduate 176 students at its commencement ceremony Friday, Aug. 6, at 2:30 p.m. at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Rangos School Graduation ceremonyThe summer graduates will receive bachelor’s and advanced degrees in health sciences, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology. Students from the class of the Duquesne-China Health Institute, representing Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, are among the graduates.

Reflecting Duquesne’s commitment to providing a horizon-expanding education, this year’s commencement will mark the conferral of more than 1,000 physician assistant degrees.

Byron Wade, vice president of UPMC Locum Clinicians and a 2008 Rangos School graduate, will give the alumni welcome. Dr. Darlene Weaver, associate provost for academic affairs, will confer the degrees and deliver the commencement address.

During the ceremony, Health Sciences Dean Dr. Fevzi Akinci will honor John Rangos, Sr. the founding donor of the Rangos School, who passed away last week. There also will be a moment of silence for student Anthony Bove, who died in 2020 and would have been part of this graduating class.
