Upcoming ‘Best of the Bluff’ Series Concert Features Popular Pairs
The next installment of the School of Music’s Best of the Bluff: Year Two concert series will present three of the most iconic duets in classical music.
Best of the Bluff, Year Two: Dynamic Duos will be held in person Sunday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. in the music school’s PNC Recital Hall.
Music Dean David Allen Wehr, the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair and founding artistic director of the Bluff series, will be joined during the performance by:
- Lorna McGhee, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) principal flutist
- Charles Stegeman, the Pittsburgh Opera/Ballet Orchestra concertmaster and Duquesne professor of violin.
The concert will feature César Franck’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, originally composed as a wedding present to Belgian violinist Eugene Ysaye. The repertoire also includes renowned sonatas from the 20th century by Francis Poulenc and Sergei Prokofieff.
The Best of the Bluff series features favorite musical works from past years’ series that were selected by audience members surveyed in 2018.
The concert series will continue to showcase the talent and passion of music school faculty, many of whom are members of the PSO, as well as international guest musicians and other PSO members.
