COVID Vaccine Now Required for All Employees

The following important update was shared on Sept. 14 with all University employees.

Dear Duquesne University faculty and staff colleagues,

Photo of vaccine being given at DUWe’d like to thank you all for being responsive and uploading COVID vaccination cards to the University’s secure private health portal. As of Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, 74% of faculty and staff have uploaded proof of vaccination.

On Thursday, Sept. 9, President Joe Biden updated the federal COVID response plan to require vaccines for much of the U.S. The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is developing a rule that will require all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated and to require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis before coming to work.

To continue to ensure the safety of our campus community, we are changing our vaccine policy to now require that all employees—full-time and part-time, including adjunct faculty—get a COVID vaccine and upload proof of their vaccination through our secure private health portal. If you have already uploaded your vaccination card to the portal, please do not upload it again.

Employees requesting a religious or documented medical exemption from the vaccine must complete and submit a Duquesne University exemption request form to the secure private health portal for review and approval. To receive the appropriate exemption request form, contact hrservices@duq.edu. Employees with approved exemptions will be required to be tested on a regular basis.

In addition to supporting the University’s goals for safety and continuing work toward a more normal campus experience, Duquesne’s requirement also will ensure the University is compliant with federal law. The deadline for compliance is Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

Vaccinated faculty and staff who have not uploaded proof of vaccination to the secure private health portal should do so immediately by visiting this link. Remember to scroll to the bottom of this page and follow instructions listed as “For Employees.”

Free COVID-19 vaccines are available on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays in the Muldoon Building at the corner of Chatham Place and Fifth Avenue. Call the Center for Pharmacy Care at 412.396.2155 or email cpc@duq.edu to schedule an appointment.
