Faculty, Staff Invited to Register for Annual Holy Spirit Lecture

James F. Keenan, S.J., director of the Jesuit Institute and vice-provost for global engagement at Boston College, will present Grieving in the Upper Room: Vulnerability, Recognition, Consciousness and the Holy Spirit as part of Duquesne’s 14th annual Holy Spirit Lecture.

The Duquesne University - Holy Spirit Lecture

The event will take place Monday, Oct. 4, from 4 – 6 p.m. in the Charles Dougherty Ballroom in the Power Center. A reception will follow.

The annual lecture is an expression of Duquesne’s mission and charism as a University founded by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. The lecture encourages the exploration of ideas pertaining to the theology of the Holy Spirit within an ecumenical context and in dialogue with contemporary issues. The event reflects Duquesne’s commitment to broadening students’ horizons on faith issues.

Noting that the disciples were gathered in the upper room from the death of Jesus to the Pentecost, Keenan’s presentation will explore how their grief and vulnerability played a role in their recognition of the risen Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Dr. Neomi De Anda, associate professor of religious studies and a research associate with the  Human Rights Center at the University of Dayton, will respond to Keenan’s lecture.
