Preliminary Proposals for Paluse Faculty Research Grants Due Next Week

Full-time faculty are reminded that preliminary proposals for the Paluse Faculty Research Grants competition must be submitted by Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The grant, a campus-wide internal funding opportunity sponsored by the Center for Catholic Faith and Culture (CCFC), is intended to support scholarly research that reflects the mission and identity of Duquesne University.

Up to two $6,000 grants will be awarded this year. The grant may be used to support a single project or a portion of a multi-phase research project.

This year’s grant competition falls during the inaugural year of the CCFC’s newest project, Catholicism and the Common Good, which is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. The project will establish a variety of initiatives that deploy the intellectual and moral capital of Catholic tradition to respond to contemporary social issues.

“Our hope is that Paluse applicants this year will consider projects that touch on aspects of the common good, which is a key tenet of our faith and Spiritan mission. These could range from addressing issues of social justice to exploring topics or concerns from other religious traditions,” explained Dr. Darlene Weaver, CCFC director.

The grant competition is open to all full-time Duquesne faculty members working in any academic discipline.

Full applications for the grants are due Thursday, Nov. 30. Awards will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 20. For more information and to see samples of previously funded projects, visit duq.edu/paluse.
