Marquis Jaylen ‘J.B.’ Brown Remembered at Memorial Service
Counseling and Support Remain Available to Campus Community
The Duquesne community is appreciative of the tremendous support and kindness from alumni, friends and the community regarding the death of University student-athlete Marquis Jaylen “J.B.” Brown.
More than 1,300 students, faculty and staff joined Brown’s parents, brother and family members at a special memorial service on Sunday evening to remember Jaylen. Members of the Spiritan Congregation celebrated Mass, during which the Rev. Bill Christy, C.S.Sp., reflected on Jaylen and the strength of both his family and the Duquesne community.
Following the Mass, President Ken Gormley, head football coach Jerry Schmitt and Jaylen’s parents, Danielle and Marquis, each spoke, paying tribute to Jaylen as a student, teammate, friend and son.
Members of the Counseling and Wellbeing Center in Room 636 of Fisher Hall (412.396.6204) and Spiritan Campus Ministry (412.396.6020) continue to be available for any member of the campus community who need support during this difficult time.
