Duquesne Earns Recognition from National Safety Council

In its first year of application, Duquesne University has earned the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award for 2010.

The award recognizes Duquesne for having 50 percent fewer days away from work because of injuries and illnesses than other educational institutions on average, as recorded by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and for having no fatalities during a calendar year, said George Bender, director of environmental health and safety.

The certificate was shared with Facilities Management staff members on Wednesday.

The occupational awards of the National Safety Council,  a top safety professional organization, are designed to help promote the prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses.
