Foundations Interested in WDUQ

Duquesne University has reached an agreement that will give a group of local foundations two months to submit a proposal for WDUQ. During this period, the University will not conduct negotiations or make any decisions on the sale of the station’s license.

The Pittsburgh Foundation, the Heinz Endowments, the Richard King Mellon Foundation and an anonymous foundation approached the University with the idea and put down hand money as an indication of their commitment.

“From the beginning, we have recognized the keen community interest in the future of the station,” said President Charles Dougherty.  “We appreciate the support shown by the Pittsburgh foundations, as well as their long-time support of various University initiatives.”

Early in the process, Duquesne and The Pittsburgh Foundation hired consulting firm Public Radio Capital to explore ways to keep WDUQ’s public radio format.
