‘Time.com’ Editor to Discuss Value of Liberal Arts Degree

The executive editor of Time.com will help to kick off Duquesne’s new Master of Arts program in English with a concentration in writing, media arts and technology.

Daniel Eisenberg, executive editor of Time.com and former staff writer for Time magazine, will discuss the value of a liberal arts degree and his educational and career path in a free lecture on Monday, Oct. 22, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 104 of College Hall. Eisenberg also will discuss the future of online journalism and the role of a liberal arts degree in that work.

Eisenberg’s presentation kicks off the creation of a new certificate program offered by the Department of Journalism and Multimedia Arts and the Department of English. This new program offers multimedia knowledge and skills to graduate students who have a liberal arts background, aiming to increase their marketability in fast-growing information industries.

“Dan Eisenberg’s career trajectory from liberal arts graduate to executive editor of the digital version of a legendary media brand exemplifies the synergy being created by the English and Journalism and Multimedia Arts departments,” said Mike Dillon, journalism and multimedia arts chair.
