Mailing Services Implements Beneficial Upgrades

Recent upgrades to Mailing Services have resulted in a more efficient and cost-effective mailing process for the University.

With updates to equipment and software, the mailing process has moved from manual to automated. These upgrades include a new printer, tabber, metering machines and the use of Bulk Mailer Pro software.

The improved equipment allows mailing services to:

  • Process larger mailings in-house, going from a maximum of 2,000 pieces to the capability to process more than 50,000 pieces
  • Barcode mail pieces, which is required by the postal service to receive the lowest postage rates
  • Verify addresses and current residents on address lists
  • Print directly on mail pieces, which changed a two-step process to just one step
  • Apply one, two or three tabs in a single pass, with speeds up to 20,000 tabs per hour
  • Receive commercial rates on packages with its new postage metering equipment, which is a 15 to 20 percent savings.
