School of Business Earns ‘Top University Sales Program’ Designation

The Palumbo-Donahue School of Business has been named among the 2014 Top Universities for Professional Sales Education by the Sales Education Foundation.

In its eighth edition of the Annual magazine, the foundation showcases Duquesne and other top universities with verified sales programs that prepare students for professional selling careers.

“We’re committed to growing our sales program and pleased that our efforts have been recognized by the foundation,” said Dr. Dorene Ciletti, assistant professor of marketing and sports marketing, who was instrumental in obtaining the recognition. “Duquesne offers a number of sales-focused courses through our AACSB-accredited School of Business, including classes focused on the professional sales process, revenue generation and sales management.

“We are one of only a handful of schools to offer a minor in sales,” Ciletti continued. “Our sales curriculum is focused on the application of theory through experiential activities to better prepare our students to more efficiently adapt to professional sales positions.”

The foundation’s research shows half of all graduates with business degrees will enter the workforce in a sales-oriented role. Those with a sales education ramp up 50 percent faster and turn over 30 percent less than their non-sales educated peers.

Companies have an increased focus on partnering with university sales programs, said Sally Stevens, executive director of the foundation. “With a proven track record for producing top sales talent, the future of university sales education is brighter than ever.”
