Spiritans Present Cor Unum Award, Welcome Lay Associates

The Congregation of the Holy Spirit celebrated the Oct. 2 feast day of its founder Claude Poullart des Places at the Chapel with a special Mass, during which they presented a special award to an alumnus and recognized the commitments of lay Spiritans.

William J. Lyons, B’70, MBA’78, received the Spiritan Cor Unum Award in recognition of his exemplifying the charism of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit as well as Duquesne’s mission and goals. Lyons, retired in 2013 as chief financial officer at CONSOL Energy, served on the Duquesne University Board of Directors from 2005 until this past June. He also has helped the Spiritans by chairing the congregation’s Audit Committee for the USA Province.

The Spiritans also honored Rich and Daneen Gosser at the Mass, accepting their permanent commitment as lay Spiritan associates. In addition, the congregation accepted three-year commitments as lay Spiritans from University staff members Luci-Jo Dimaggio, director of mission animation; Kate Lecci, campus minister; Adam Wasilko, director of freshman development and special student services; and Ilena Yurochko, associate director of University events.
