Annual Open Enrollment Starts April 13

The University’s annual open enrollment period begins Monday, April 13, providing employees an opportunity to review the various benefits that are offered and to make choices for the upcoming calendar year.

There are no provider changes this year, but employees are encouraged to examine all options in order to find the best fit for themselves and their families.

Employees considering plan options are encouraged to attend the annual Benefits Fair on Wednesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom to meet with representatives from the different health plans. In addition to learning more about plan offerings, staff can also purchase their Duquesne Pirates Day tickets, taste free Parkhurst samples and learn about wellness incentive programs. Spouses of employees are welcome to attend.

“We encourage employees to take some time to review the tools and resources available to them,” said Donna Steed, assistant director of human resources-benefits. “There are many things to consider when selecting a plan, such as the price tags, deductibles and network providers. Each employee has their own individual needs, so remember that what works for someone else may not work for you.”

For details on various plans, price tags and the new University contribution to the Dependent Care Spending Account (DCSA), a 2015-2016 Benefits Overview guide will be available on the benefits website and mailed to employees in advance of the Benefits Fair. Per a University announcement earlier this year, Duquesne University will deposit $500 as a lump sum effective Wednesday, July 1, for those who select the DCSA. Further explanation is available on page 16 of the guide.

Employees who are eligible for flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts and vacation purchases are reminded that these selections do not carry over from year to year—they must be selected each plan year during the open enrollment process.

Open enrollment closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 22. For additional information or to schedule an individual appointment, contact the benefits office or call 412.396.5106.
