Bike Week Activities Roll onto Campus

BikeDUQ, a faculty and staff advocacy group, and the student Duquesne Bicycle Club will host activities to encourage safe bicycle riding as commuter transportation and as recreation during National Bike Week, Monday, Sept 14, through Saturday, Sept. 19.

The two groups will set up a table on Academic Walk to:

  • Distribute commuter guides and bike maps
  • Sign up people for Healthy Ride, the city’s bike-share program
  • Take people’s pictures with their bikes using BikePGH’s I Heart My Bike photo booth
  • Show how to use the bus bike racks on a Port Authority mobile demo rack
  • Share basic maintenance techniques, pumping up tires, showing riders how to check their chains and brakes, and demonstrating how to properly lock their bikes.

Healthy Ride will join the A-Walk table and bring a demo bike on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Thursday, Sept. 17. Additionally, the groups will sponsor activities, including lunchtime bike maintenance classes in the Power Center classroom; group rides around town; and on-bike classes led by Dr. David Lampe, associate professor of biology and a League of American Bicyclists Certified Bike Instructor, and two other league-certified instructors.
