Reminder: Women’s History Month Events Feature Poets, Their Work

Female poets Sabreen Kadhim and Jan Beatty will discuss their work and how they were influenced as writers as part of two upcoming events hosted by The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies as part of Women’s History Month.

Sabreen Kadhim

Kadhim’s presentation, To Be a Woman, Journalist and Poet in Baghdad Today: A Conversation with Sabreen Kadhim, will be held on Thursday, March 10, at 6 p.m. in the Berger Gallery of College Hall. Kadhim will discuss her experiences as a journalist and writer who has experienced the effects of the rise of militias in Iraq. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, the Department of Political Science and the Raymond J. Kelley Endowed Chair in International Relations.

Jan Beatty

Beatty will present Women’s Bodies: The Road and The Map on Tuesday, March 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Genesius Theater. She is known for her four books of poetry, including The Switching/Yard, and currently teaches at Carlow University where she directs the creative writing program and runs the Madwomen in the Attic writing workshops.
