New Location Connects Campus to Center for Pharmacy Care

More patients have been visiting the Center for Pharmacy Care since its move from the Muldoon Building on Fifth Avenue to its new, conveniently located satellite office situated in the heart of campus.

The center made a smooth transition to Room 215A in the Union in July, while simultaneously maintaining operations at its other location at the Duquesne University Pharmacy in the Hill District.

“Being accessible on the main part of campus and also in the Hill District for patient care is ideal,” said Dr. Suzanne Higginbotham, director of the Center for Pharmacy Care and the Duquesne University Pharmacy. “More employees are scheduling for the Know Your Numbers program as well as for medication therapy management. Many have commented on the more convenient location, and some have been able to visit the Centre Avenue space to see our dispensing pharmacy as well.”

In addition to its new office, the center offers prescription pick up for employees between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, and has expanded its operating hours and community outreach. A pharmacist is now available four days each week to go out into the community and serve those who are uninsured, under-insured or do not have any access to health care.

“We also are now able to bill for immunization services, and we work with the Duquesne University Health Service as an interdisciplinary health team,” said Higginbotham, who hopes to eventually expand services to include hepatitis C and HIV testing. “The change of location has been a win-win for all involved.”

The Center for Pharmacy Care at the Duquesne Pharmacy is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the satellite location is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
