Spanish Film Club Series Comes to Campus This Fall

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures will present the fall Spanish Film Club series, Celebrating the New Wave of Ibero American Cinema.

“The Spanish film series will make a powerful statement about Duquesne University’s commitment to moral and spiritual values,” said Dr. Edith H. Krause, professor of German and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. “It will bring campus-wide attention to social, cultural and humanitarian issues of general importance.”

Screenings will be held on Wednesdays at 7:05 p.m. in Room 105 of College Hall.

The series begins on Wednesday, Sept. 14, with La Sonrisa Verdadera (True Smile). The film follows the journey taken by Sergio, a blind Autistic man, through the desert and mountains over 30 days.

Additional films in the series include:

• Arrugas (Wrinkles), Sept. 28.
• Guarani (The People’s Language), Oct. 12
• Pequenas Mentiras Piadosas (The Travel Agent), Oct. 26
• Todos se van (Everybody Leaves), Nov. 9.

The series is free and open to the public. It is funded by a grant from Pagda; the Ministry of Education; Culture and Sports of Spain; and SPAIN Arts & Culture. It also is supported by the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts and the multicultural affairs office.
