Relay for Life to Benefit American Cancer Society this Saturday

Join the fight against cancer by participating in the annual Relay for Life from noon to midnight, this Saturday, April 22, at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

The Relay for Life, sponsored by Duquesne’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), benefits the American Cancer Society. This year, University CAC members selected Through the Decades as the theme, and participants are asked to choose their favorite decade to decorate their team table.

“Cancer has been around for many decades, but we strive to contain and fight it,” said Mimi Wolbert, administrative assistant in the Center for Student Involvement and CAC advisor. “I am so proud of this organization for their accomplishments over the last four years. They all work so hard to fight this fight.”

Relay for Life participants can commemorate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and spread awareness on the fight against cancer. The event features games, tournaments, auction items, food, performances by University organizations and remarks from Duquesne students and faculty who are cancer survivors.

Participants and donors can purchase luminaria bags and dedicate them in honor, memory or support of a loved one who has faced cancer. Luminarias can be purchased online or on the third floor concourse of the Union on Wednesday, April 19, and Thursday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A memorial video will be shown throughout the event, with special messages from loved ones, family and friends about how cancer has affected so many lives. The CAC at Duquesne raised more than $7,000 at last year’s event and more than $31,000 for the entire year.

The Relay for Life is open to the campus community and public. For more information, visit www.relayforlife.org/paduquesne.
