Center for Pharmacy Care to Offer Free Diabetes Prevention Classes to Faculty, Staff

This summer, Duquesne’s Center for Pharmacy Care (CPC) will offer a free diabetes prevention program to all full- and part-time faculty, staff and their spouses and dependents.

Classes will begin on Friday, July 28, and meet weekly on Fridays at noon in the Bayer Learning Center, and will run for 16 weeks.

During the classes, a pharmacist coach will teach participants how to set and meet lifestyle goals, and keep motivated through diet and exercise. The coach will also facilitate discussions on healthy eating and meal preparation, walking classes and guest lecturers such as dieticians and fitness instructors.

The diabetes prevention program will also offer support groups for people with similar goals and challenges to share ideas, celebrate successes and work to overcome obstacles on their paths to healthier living.

Past participants of this program—now in its third year—have shown success with weight loss and lowering glucose levels.

The deadline to enroll in the program is Thursday, July 27. Call the CPC at 412.396.2155 to register or to learn more about the program or diabetes prevention.
