Kelly Lecture to Focus on Principles and Morality in Biomedical Ethics

The author of the bulk of a historical report that summarizes the ethical principles and guidelines for research involving human subjects will be the featured speaker at the upcoming David F. Kelly Bioethics Lecture.

The Center for Healthcare Ethics will host Dr. Tom L. Beauchamp, who will present A Defense of Universal Principles and Common Morality in Biomedical Ethics on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 613 of the Duquesne Union.

Beauchamp wrote most of The Belmont Report, a document published by the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research in 1978. He is professor emeritus of Philosophy and a senior research scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University.

The David F. Kelly Bioethics Lectures draw nationally and internationally prominent scholars to speak at Duquesne each fall and spring semester on current and emerging topics in bioethics. The purpose of the series is to provide ethics leadership on the crucial issues in health care today.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Glory Smith at 412.396.4504 or visit www.duq.edu/chce.
