The lunch will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Union’s Africa Room. Dr. Joe DeCrosta, executive director of the Office of International Programs, will give a brief presentation.

Des Places, one of the youngest founders of a major religious organization, founded the Spiritan order in 1703 when he was just 24 years old. Dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the order’s aim was to support students with little means on their way to the priesthood. Ordained at 28, Des Places fell ill and died at 30. He requested that he be buried in a nameless plot among the poorest of the poor, whom he pledged to serve.

The luncheon is being held as part of Heritage Week, which celebrates Duquesne’s Spiritan tradition. RSVP here.
