Expert CLE Panel to Discuss the Benefits of Law Student Interns

An upcoming Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program hosted by the School of Law will address how legal professionals can benefit from working with law student interns.

Ask Not What Your Legal Intern Can Do For You…, featuring a panel of distinguished law professionals, is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in room 203 of the law school.

“Students need to know what to expect when they enter into a position in the legal field,” said Kate Norton, director of clinical and international programs and assistant professor of clinical legal education in the law school. “This is an experiential learning environment, and we offer lawyers the opportunity to understand the experiential learning requirements of law students today and what that means for legal interns in their office.”

The CLE will provide suggestions about incorporating skill development into a field placement, which enables students to better understand both the legal system and the practice and profession of law. The program was designed specifically for lawyers and judges who are interested in mentoring, supervising and teaching law students so they can succeed at the highest level of their potential.

In addition to Norton, panelists include:

  • Rochelle R. McCain, director of public interest and government relations, University of Pittsburgh School of Law
  • Greg Norton, staff attorney for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and adjunct law professor at Duquesne
  • Grace W. Orsatti, externship and pro bono director, Duquesne School of Law.
