‘Uptown Jazz Series’ to Highlight Bill Evans and Joe Henderson

The Mary Pappert School of Music’s Uptown Jazz Series: Giant of Jazz returns next week with a conference featuring works by jazz pianist/composer Bill Evans and jazz tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson.

The concert is scheduled for Monday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Genesius Theater.

Evans, a classically trained musician, mostly played in jazz trios but also was a member of the Miles Davis sextet known for recording Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time.

Henderson, whose career spanned more than 40 years, played with many leading American musicians of his time such as Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard, among others.

The concert will feature performers including series artistic director Mike Tomaro (saxophone); Joe Badaczewski (trumpet); Jeff Bush (trombone); Eric Susoeff (guitar); Max Leake (keyboard); Paul Thompson (bass); and Tom Wendt (drums).
