The designation honors programs—which span higher education, teaching hospitals and clinical sites—for high standards in educational excellence and visionary leadership.

“The Duquesne University School of Nursing is extremely proud to be named an NLN Center of Excellence for a fourth time since 2004,” said Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean of nursing at Duquesne.

Programs applying to be Centers of Excellence can select one of four categories of designation based on the strengths, goals and areas of distinction for their programs. Among this year’s 17 selected programs, Duquesne is listed with 10 others in the designation category Creating Environments to Enhance Student Learning and Professional Development.

“The faculty, staff and students have worked collaboratively to increase academic standards, achieve national rankings, develop creative pedagogies and disseminate research findings while simultaneously developing new relevant academic programs and increasing enrollment,” said Glasgow. “This designation is a testament to their innovation and diligence. Please join me in congratulating them.”

The 2020 NLN Centers of Excellence™ will be formally recognized during the 2020 NLN Education Summit, which will be held virtually Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 25.

“To earn this recognition, a team of scholars and visionary leaders co-create and sustain educational excellence,” said NLN President Patricia S. Yoder-Wise, professor and dean emerita at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. “Those individuals—faculty, deans and administrators—deserve our deepest gratitude. Centers of Excellence faculty and leadership enjoy the opportunity to share their experience, knowledge and wisdom for the benefit of everyone in nursing education.”
