School of Law’s Annual Woman of the Year Event Goes Virtual

The Women’s Law Association (WLA) at Duquesne will recognize two distinguished law school graduates at the virtual 28th annual Woman of the Year event.

Photo of Hanley HallSlated for Monday, March 29 at 6 p.m., the Woman of the Year award is presented to a Duquesne law alumna who has demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and a commitment to seeking change and expanding opportunities for women within the profession. The Recent Graduate of the Year award is given to an alumna who has graduated within the last five years, has demonstrated a commitment to women and serves as a model to women in the profession.

Catrina Melograna, L’21, will be honored as Woman of the Year 2021. A student in Leiden University’s Air and Space Law Advanced LL.M. program, Melograna is a prospective member of the International Institute of Space Law. She also participates in the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs’ Space4Women mentorship program.

Tynishia Powell will be recognized as the Recent Graduate of the Year awardee for 2021. Powell, L’16, serves as associate counsel at Arconic. She recently finished work on the Lower Hill Development project for the Urban Redevelopment Authority, a historic endeavor for the city of Pittsburgh.

The event also will include remarks from Law School Dean April Barton and other alumni.
