Outstanding Educators Honored for Excellence

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) will recognize this year’s outstanding faculty and graduate student educators during its annual Celebration of Teaching Excellence award ceremony.

Provost Dr. David Dausey will present the awards during the event, which will take place Thursday, April 22, at 3 p.m. via Zoom.

The Creative Teaching Awards recognize faculty who use creativity and innovation in their teaching methods and have assessed the impact of those methods on student learning.

The 2020-2021 faculty recipients are:

  • Dr. Tammy Hughes (Education), Dr. Cathleen Appelt (Sociology), Dr. Meghan Blaskowitz (Occupational Therapy), Dr. Bridget Calhoun (Physician Assistant), Dr. Jordan Covvey (Pharmacy), Dr. Jessica A. Devido (Nursing), Retta Martin (Occupational Therapy), Dr. Andrew T. Simpson (History), Tiffany Sizemore (Law), Dr. Ann Stuart (Occupational Therapy), Dr. Rachel Whitman (Psychology) for Interprofessional Roundtables: Innovating Solutions to Contemporary Mental Health Challenges and Social Injustices.
  • Dr. Rebecca Maata (English) for Students in Liberal Arts and Health Sciences Curate a Gallery Exhibit on the History of Anatomy
  • Dr. Autumn Stewart-Lynch (Pharmacy) for Pivoting an Innovative Simulated Pharmacist Prescribing Activity to an Asynchronous, Virtual Learner.

Winning projects receive $1,000 and are featured in poster presentations during the ceremony.

In addition, the Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes teaching effectiveness by graduate students through a portfolio process in which they demonstrate rigorous student learning, reflection on feedback and leadership in teaching among graduate students.

The graduate award recipients are:

  • Manisha Chandwani, School of Pharmacy
  • Basak Guven, McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
  • Brandon Hoenig, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences
  • Zachary Slanger, McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.
