Music School Choral Concert to Celebrate World Music Day

The Mary Pappert School of Music will release a special concert featuring three of its choirs on its YouTube channel at 9 a.m. Monday, June 21, in conjunction with World Music Day.

The concert will feature the Voices of Spirit and Pappert Chorale, conducted by Dr. Caron Daley, along with the University Singers, conducted by Dr. Joseph Stuligross. The video will include a welcome video, four song videos and four corresponding introduction videos recorded by the conductor.

The repertoire for the World Music Day Virtual Choral Concert includes:

Mass Choir in Chapel

  • Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, by Johann Sebastian Bach: performed by Voices of Spirit
  • Rosas Pandan, arranged by George Hernandez: performed by the University Singers
  • Still I Rise, by Rosephanye Powell: performed by the Pappert Chorale
  • Elijah Rock, traditional spiritual, arranged by Mosas Hogan: performed by the Voices of Spirit.

The concert was recorded, mixed and mastered professionally by Duquesne University sound recording faculty Jay Dudt and Jesse Naus, who were assisted by students in the music technology program. The music was recorded at Pittsburgh’s Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Designed as a day that features free, live music, World Music Day was first created in 1982 by France’s Ministry of Culture as a new kind of musical holiday that highlights music’s universal appeal. The celebration has spread throughout the world and is now commemorated in more than 1,000 cities in more than 120 countries.
