Forensic Fridays Seminar to Explore Ransomware

Concern over ransomware and other cybersecurity attacks has risen significantly since the operational shutdown of the nation’s largest refined oil delivery system by a cybercriminal organization earlier this year.

To address this concern, the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law will host Understanding Ransomware and Other Cybersecurity Challenges for its next Forensic Fridays seminar, held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 12, in the Power Center Ballroom. Registrants may also participate via Zoom.

The seminar is being offered in collaboration with the Pittsburgh chapter of InfraGard, a partnership between the FBI and the private sector for the protection of critical infrastructure. It will explore the prevention and detection of, as well as response to and recovery from, cybersecurity attacks faced by law firms, businesses and other organizations. FBI Special Agent Mackenzie Monarko, data protection attorney David Ries and digital forensics expert Brett Creasy will speak at the event.

Forensic Fridays highlights Duquesne’s commitment to expanding student horizons by providing programs that offer insight into critical topics at the intersection of science and law.

The Pennsylvania CLE Board has approved this course for three hours of substantive CLE credit. Members of the DU community and general public are also welcome to attend. For more information or to register for the event, visit the Forensic Fridays site.
