Stepping Up

When the University transitioned to remote learning in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and government requirements, nearly all Duquesne student residents moved back to their permanent residences to finish the school year. Campus operations also were modified, resulting in most Duquesne employees working remotely from home offices.

As University chaplain and director of Spiritan campus ministry, the Rev. Bill Christy, C.S.Sp., is used to celebrating Mass and providing in-person counsel to support members of Duquesne’s campus community. Despite challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the impact on campus operations, Fr. Bill’s continued work is a reminder of the University’s strength and togetherness.

Since its founding at Duquesne in 2018, the Brother Keating Initiative (BKI) has been helping food-insecure members of the campus community receive access to supportive services. The initiative’s comprehensive services address health and wellness and include meal vouchers and a campus food pantry.

While the Power Center is physically closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recreation staff has been working hard to engage with students, staff and faculty through virtual workouts, free personal training sessions, helpful links to recipes and more.
