Panel Discussions Provide Opportunity to Reflect on Election

The Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Spiritan Campus Ministry will co-host Building a Better World: Faithful Citizenship and the 2016 Election, two free panel discussions geared toward providing Duquesne students, faculty and staff with opportunities for reflection about this year’s election season.

“We felt that this election season presented an opportunity to gather as a community and have important—and sometimes difficult—conversations,” said Kate Lecci, campus minister. “We hope that these events will lift up areas where we are united and help us grow in understanding where we feel divided.”

Each of the panels will spark interdisciplinary reflection and dialogue regarding the challenges of informing conscience in our information age, particular features of the 2016 general election, the relationship between faith and politics, and current party platforms.

“These panels will provide space to think about social issues, voting and the general election in light of the ideals that shape Duquesne’s Catholic and Spiritan identity,” added Dr. Darlene Weaver, director of the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.

The first panel discussion will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Africa Room of the Union. The second panel will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. with discussion topics geared toward students and followed by a viewing party of the live presidential candidate debate.

Both discussion panels are free. Attendees are asked to RSVP.
