Freshmen, Transfer Students Get Head Start through Annual FAST Program

Incoming freshmen and transfer students will start their transition to college life at Duquesne by attending the annual Freshman Advisement Summer Transition (FAST) program next month.

Freshman Advisement Summer Transition Program

The program is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10, through Friday, July 13. FAST is optional for new Duquesne students looking to start their college experience prior to the start of fall classes. The annual program, hosted by the Office of Freshman Development, typically draws more than 2,000 attendees.

Liberal arts, education, nursing and pharmacy majors are invited to visit campus on July 10 or July 12. Biomedical engineering, business, music, health sciences and natural and environmental sciences majors are invited to visit campus on July 11 or July 13.

“FAST has become a critical piece of our new student process. Our goal is for new students and families to feel confident about their choice to pursue a Duquesne education,” Adam Wasilko, director of freshman development and disability services, said. “Our hope is that once the week of FAST is over, students and families are able to focus on the excitement of becoming a member of the Duquesne community and not worry about paperwork or forms.”

During FAST, students get a head start on their Duquesne experience by:

  • Meeting their academic advisors
  • Learning more about health services, financial aid, tuition deferment, campus safety and security, and student activities
  • Having a student ID photo taken
  • Setting up a student bank account
  • Ordering/purchasing textbooks and a computer
  • Connecting with future classmates.
