The School of Pharmacy’s sixth annual health and wellness fair features free health screenings and other activities next week.

Wellness fair 2017

Hosted in conjunction with American Pharmacists Month, the fair will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Market Square, downtown. The event is sponsored in part by Giant Eagle Pharmacy.

“Duquesne’s participation in the fair is consistent with the pharmacy school’s mission to improve health outcomes of patients and their communities,” Dr. Janet Astle, assistant dean for student services in the pharmacy school, said. “Pharmacists provide a variety of services, including immunizations, screening services, disease state counseling and medication management services.”

Professional pharmacy student organizations will offer 20 informational and complimentary screening activities during the fair, some of which include:

  • Diabetes screenings
  • Body composition analysis
  • Carbon monoxide screenings
  • Free blood pressure screenings
  • Smoking cessation information
  • Product samples.

Flu vaccines, which are billable to insurance, will be available through Giant Eagle Pharmacy. Individuals who receive a flu shot will earn $5 in free groceries when they present their Giant Eagle Advantage card. Additional offerings include a DJ hosting “Movin’ and Groovin’ in the Square” and a variety of raffle baskets.
