University Awards Honorary Degree to Dominica Prime Minister

President Ken Gormley conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters upon Roosevelt Skerrit, prime minister of the Caribbean island nation of Dominica, before an audience that included the first lady and other representatives and dignitaries from the island.

The prime minister was at Duquesne to present the Integrity of Creation Leadership Address. During his discussion, Building Climate Resilient Countries, Skerrit talked about Dominica’s quest to become the world’s first climate-resilient nation since it suffered catastrophic damage by Hurricane Maria in 2017, Tropical Storm Erika in 2015 and numerous other storms.

Skerrit’s presentation was co-sponsored by the Center for African Studies and the Presidential Conference on the Integrity of Creation.
