2019 Staff Awards Winners Announced

The campus community gathered May 15 for the annual Employee Appreciation Reception and Staff Awards ceremony, hosted by President Ken Gormley and the Staff Advisory Council.

Each year, the University recognizes individual and team efforts that go above and beyond regularly assigned duties. All full-time and part-time staff members who have been at the University for at least two years are eligible to be nominated for the awards.

Award winners include:

President’s Spirit of Duquesne Award

Anne Mullarkey Sawa

The President’s Spirit of Duquesne Award is presented to an individual who exemplifies the University’s mission of serving God by serving students through commitment to excellence in education; concern for moral and spiritual values; maintaining an atmosphere open to diversity; and service to the community.

Teamwork Award

The South Side Group

Richard Christensen, Daniel Gittins, Thomas Hart, Alexandra Kozak, Timothy Lewis, Jessica Mann, Rebecca Jamrozik Mickler, Alia Pustorino and Anne Mullarkey Sawa

The Teamwork Award is presented to a group who has continually engaged and supported others throughout the University in pursuit of a common goal.

Innovation Award

Larry Peng Zhang

The Innovation Award acknowledges an individual or a team who has developed a solution to a challenging problem.

Diversity and Inclusion Award

Maria Comas

New in 2019, the Diversity and Inclusion Award recognizes a staff member who has demonstrated, through positive interactions with others, respect and value for diversity and inclusion within Duquesne University and the broader community.

Quality Service Award

Mary McConnell-Krepps

The Quality Service Award is presented to an individual who provides service with timely and appropriate follow-up and is responsive to the needs of students, staff, faculty and other stakeholders.

Presidential Special Recognition Award

Ron Gigliotti and the Conference and Events Services Team

Gormley presented this special award to the Conference and Events Services Team to recognize the team’s superlative event planning and ability to consistently exceed expectations.

Employees celebrating milestones of five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service also were recognized during the event.
